So we went to the first regular season hockey game last night for our local BCJHL team - the Smoke Eaters. I'd like to say it was spectacular, but alas it was very spectacular for the other team, the Vipers, and not so great for our guys. The score was 7-1, I'll let you figure out which was us.
Lots of new guys on the team this year and lots of rookies, so that gives them a little leeway, but only for the first few games and then it's no excuse hockey. The coach is good though and (I think) has a clear idea of where the team is headed, so we'll just have to wait and see if he can get them there.
A couple of the guys are living at our house right now and I know from first-hand experience that they do take the game seriously. Man, if I worked out half, okay a quarter, so much as these guys do I'd never have reason to complain about my weight again. Of course I'd be broke as I'd have to do what they do and practice constantly - and then I'd have no time to go to my real job.
In spite of the rough beginning to the season I'm pretty excited about it being hockey time again. We've followed the local team for more than 20 years and always find ourselves at the game ready to cheer them on.
